In 2024, the party is on Youtube.

I’ve noticed this DJ trend online…
Fred Again and other DJs are playing sets in unconventional locations like laundromats, elevators, and rooftops…
But why?!
Because these unconventional spots let DJs create the vibe, pick the guest list, and truly express themselves.
So instead of sticking with the usual club scene.
You know…
The one with played out tracks, over priced drinks, and people who don’t dance.

“Can you play Bad Bunny??”
DJs are being themselves and creating unique and personal experiences while building a worldwide online community.
There’s only so many times we can hear Back That Azz Up by Juvenile before we say…
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
The 3 Main Drivers of This Trend
Easy Video Recording
YouTube Rules Streaming
Cultural Shift Towards Authenticity
Let’s break em down real quick! ⬇️
Video is easier.
Doing anything with video 10, 15, or 20 years ago…
Was hard and expensive!
You needed good cameras and a good editor (at the bare minimum).
Now all you need is an Iphone and Capcut to make perfectly acceptable videos.
Trust me….
I’m no video editor myself…

But I’ve been able to pick up basic filming and editing techniques in the last few months that allow me to reach hundreds of thousands of people on a weekly basis.
So recording video of your DJ set in 2024 and uploading it to Youtube is easier than ever.
I don’t need to over explain this point…I think you get it.
Youtube is King.
No matter your interest…
You’re sure to find others on there making videos about it.
I went into some of the #’s behind Youtube in this REEL.
But for reference peep these stats:
More people use Youtube to stream and listen to music than Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora COMBINED. ⬇️

Youtube is even beating Netflix when it comes to streaming! ⬇️

I know that personally I watch A LOT more Youtube than Netflix.
YouTube provides DJs with massive global reach.
Your party can now potentially reach millions worldwide.
The era of authenticity.
In a world full of AI and perfectly polished social media pics and vids…
We want REAL PEOPLE WITH REAL STORIES.
Sure, the novelty of unconventional locations is fun but I believe the deeper reason this DJ trend is catching on is because viewers feel like they are part of an exclusive, invite-only experience.
It’s a house party kind of vibe.
The DJ gets to tell their story (through music) unfiltered without the pressure of a nightclub or big festival crowd.
On YouTube, DJs have control over their environment which allows them to experiment and innovate creatively.
For music fans…
This is a beautiful thing!
I’m literally finding out about new DJs weekly and discovering a ton of great music.
How You Can Benefit From This Trend.
If you are a DJ:
Start recording your sets: Use your phone to capture your performances in unique locations. Experiment with angles and editing to showcase your style and try different things. Think outside of the box!
Leverage YouTube’s global reach: Upload your DJ sets and create a channel to share your music with millions worldwide. Engage with your audience through comments and live streams to build a loyal following.
Be genuine: Let your personality shine through your music and interactions with your audience. Share your story and create a connection with your listeners. This authenticity will set you apart and draw people to your music.
If you are a music fan:
Discover: Explore YouTube for DJ sets by searching for your favorite genres. This is the fun part because you can get as niche or as weird as you want. You might be surprised at what you find.
Support: Subscribe, like, comment, and share to support your favorite DJs and be part of the community. Every show of love helps them out.
Final Thoughts…
I love where this trend is going right now.
Anything that encourages more creativity and sharing of new and exciting music is a plus in my book.
I’ll continue to keep tabs on it as it evolves since it’s not going to be a static thing IMO.
We are just getting started here.
