The Joy of Music

Read Time: 4 minutes

I'm making music again, and it feels incredible.

It’s hard to believe it’s been years since I’ve made anything.

To be clear…

I’m not talking about “releasing” music.

I mean, I literally did not open up Ableton Live for years!

For a guy who used to crank out tunes like a machine, I hit a full stop.

I couldn't muster up the energy and inspiration.

Why?

I pivoted. I changed my habits and adopted new desires and goals.

And music took a backseat.

I realized that in my early 30’s I needed to get a better grip on my finances, my health, and my future.

So I started skill stacking (more on this juicy bit in our next chat).

And it’s my belief that anytime I start something new, it’s going to take 2-3 years to start seeing some real results.

Sure, things could move along a lot quicker but I like to adopt a longer time horizon to temper expectations and increase my chances of success.

That pivot allowed me to break through limiting financial beliefs, take on more accountability, and think bigger.

So now that I feel like a more well-rounded grown adult man (lol I’m serious).

It’s time to make some music again!

My side quest into investing and real estate these last few years has been a mostly “heady” affair.

You don’t do real estate deals based on a “feeling”.

That’s unlikely to end well. It’s all about the numbers and the market.

But music…

That’s all “feeling” and expression.

Creating something out of nothing is pure magic.

My home studio (under construction)

Not making music felt so out of character at first and it was really difficult. In a way, it felt like a breakup with someone you’ve been in love with for years.

But in hindsight, it’s the best thing I could’ve done. I mean that.

Coming back with fresh eyes and less pressure, all while expanding my horizons outside of music, has been a massive confidence boost.

The bottom line: embrace change with open arms.

New is hard but it’s also when we feel the most alive.

Have you been thinking of switching things up? Or not stop (like I did) but add to what you have going on?

Talk to me! Let me know if I can help.

Expect more tunes this year. And for everyone reading this, you’ll get first dibs on future remixes and edits I make.

Chat next week!
