Life Update and Musings #3

Read time: 4 minutes

I haven’t written one of these since last year…

Call if a quick life update.

Let’s get into it.

It looks a little different around here…

Shoutout to the homie Kevin Thornton for helping with the redesign of this newsletter. I think it looks pretty damn clean if I do say so myself.

I polled my Instagram audience twice, and although the other designs weren’t far behind…

This design came out on top both times.

I wanted something clean, modern, and easy to recognize with a solid color palette.

What do you think?

The Daily Draft Club (v1 beta) is ending.

The Hunger Games of Ableton

My 30-day musical draft cohort for producers wraps up this week.

It’s my first digital product and group offer and honestly, it’s been a blast.

But let’s be real…creating 30 musical demos in 30 days is no joke.

This is not for the faint of heart.

It’s a full-on music marathon with zero room for overthinking.

Which, of course, is the whole point.

It’s also been an exercise in trust. We’ve all been sharing super early, rough demos.

Perfectionism be damned.

I’ll do a deeper breakdown in next week’s issue once it’s officially over.

Systems will set you free.

For most of my life, I believed chaos was just the natural order of things.

Stuff happens, and humans respond the best they can.

But the deeper I dive into systems thinking, the less I believe that’s true.

My natural tendency as a creative has been to solve problems and put out “fires” as they arise.

But after six years as a entrepreneur…

I’ve realized running a business that way is a trap.

A business you can’t step away from is NOT a business, it’s a JOB.

And it’s the worst kind of job because you are the bottleneck 24/7.

As the CEO/owner/leader…the business succeeding (or failing) depends on your direction and vision.

If every decision is dependent on your approval or time…

Your building the entire operation on shaky ground.

You don’t know what you don’t know (which is probably a lot).

And what if you get sick or hurt yourself?

You get the point.

This is where systems can set you free.

They allow you to build a business and a life with real leverage.

And if you been reading this newsletter for awhile now, you know that leverage is the name of the game. The more you have of it, the easier your life will be.

Life is better with leverage and systems are the building blocks.

Here are a few books I’ve been diving into on the topic of business systems:

And for all my DJs and artists reading this…

Systems thinking can 100% apply to your personal brand and career as a creative.

While everyone else is making art when “they feel like it”…

You treat it like a real business and get results and opportunities most other creatives can only dream of because you’ve systemized it.

Roya is bumping.

I’ve been quiet on the “Brenmar” content front because I’ve been deep behind the scenes helping my wife with our creative rental space, Roya.

Late last year, we optimized the space to be more aesthetic and photo-friendly to attract brands and content creators.

This year has been all about marketing and getting the word out.

We’re focused on systemizing short-form content and generating buzz through creators and influencers by activating the space.

That’s the main priority for me right now because it’s the highest-leverage use of my time.

Why?

Because once Roya is booked, the fulfillment side requires almost nothing from us. That means the income is divorced from my time which is one of the best ways to make money (leverage!)

Appreciate ya’ll!

Till next week!
